Torrija is a very traditional dessert eaten at Easter. You might find it very similar to french toast. Normally it is made with french bread, although this time I made it with bread I baked myself.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
500 grms bread (one or two days old)
500 ml. warm milk
1 small glass sweet wine (mistela, sherry, port)
Sugar with a pinch of cinnamon
Vegetable oil
Cut the bread into thick slices.
Mix the milk with the sweet wine and soak the bread into the mix for about half and hour.
Take the bread out and coat with beaten egg and then fry both sides until golden. When taking out of the oil place it on kitchen paper to remove excess fat. Leave it for a few minutes and then sprinkle with caster sugar and cinnamon.
