Tired about eating chicken always with the same recipe? Did you already try the mustard and beer sauce? The first time I tried, I was amazed about the flavour. Nothing to do with beer. Well, apparently. In fact, the alcohol from beer evaporates during cooking time, and the flavour develops towards a complex taste I would never relate to beer. The combination with onion, the sweetness of the carrots, and the aroma of the mustard, makes it perfect for enhancing the natural goodness of chicken. Once again: if you don't like any of the ingredients just don't use it (although I would say that beer is essential in this recipe). Let me know what you think about this preparation and your thoughts. Enjoy!
Ingredients for 4 servings:
-8 chicken drumsticks
-1 onion
-2 carrots
-1 beer
-2 bay leaves
-1 tsp mustard (the type you prefer)
-1 garlic clove
-flour
-pepper
-salt
-4 tbsp olive oil
Directions:
1-Dice the onion and carrots finely and set aside
2-Sprinkle some salt and pepper onto the chicken. Coat the chicken pieces with flour.
3-Heat the olive oil along with garlic, until it gets some colour. Take the garlic away and fry the drumsticks until golden braun (2-3 minutes each side). Set aside.
4-On the same oil, stir fry the veggies (add some salt and pepper) for about 10 minutes. Add the bay leaves and mustard and stir. Finally add the chicken. Distribute evenly and pour the beer.
5-Cook on medium heat for 35-40 min with the lid on, or until the chicken is completely cooked through and tender.
Tips: Serve with white rice or french fries. It tastes better the next day.
